homebasedcareHABSR has by far the largest number of Home Based Care programmes affiliated to them in South Africa.

These projects are encouraged to become self-supporting and independent of HABSR. Funds for stipends are accessed through the Dept. of Health both in Gauteng and Mpumalanga.

Where funding is not accessed, HABSR offers gap financing until all the requirements for funding are met by the Dept. of Health. Two qualified nursing sisters, situated in Gauteng and Mpumalanga respectively, who work closely with the Department of Health, conduct the training of Home Based Care givers. Once basic training is complete with the nursing sisters, caregivers are sent on further advanced training to the Dept. of Health. In Mpumalanga caregivers do not have easy access to transport to enable them to assist their patients. These care workers are assisted by two HABSR appointed field workers in the area, who monitor and mentor these projects.
